1. How to Create a Bucket

1.1 Via MinIO Web Console

  1. Login to MinIO Console:
  2. Open the MinIO web interface in your browser (e.g., https://minio-main.rit.services/).

  3. Log in using your admin and secret key.

  4. Create a Bucket:

  5. Click on Buckets in the left-hand menu.
  6. Click the Create Bucket button.
  7. Enter the bucket name (must be unique within the instance).
  8. Click Create Bucket to finalize.

2. How to Add Files/Data to a MinIO Bucket

2.1 Via MinIO Web Console

  1. Navigate to the Bucket:
  2. Log in to the MinIO web console

  3. Move to Object Browser from left menu and select the desired bucket.

  4. Upload Files:

  5. Click the Upload button.
  6. Drag and drop files or browse your system to select files.
  7. Click Upload to start transferring files to the bucket.

3. How to Check Versions of Files and Recover Data

3.1 Enable Versioning

Versioning must be enabled for the bucket. If not already done: - Navigate to the bucket in the MinIO console. - Go to Settings > Versioning > Enable versioning.

3.2 Check Versions of Files

  1. Via MinIO Console:
  2. Navigate to the bucket and find the desired file.
  3. Click the file to open the details pane.
  4. The Versions tab will list all versions of the file, with timestamps and sizes.

3.3 Recover Data

  1. Via Console:
  2. Go to the file's Versions tab.
  3. Select the desired version and click Restore or Download.

4. Site Replication in MinIO

4.1 Prerequisites

  • Two MinIO instances (source and target) must be running and accessible over the network.
  • Both instances should have valid access keys and secret keys.
  • Ensure enough storage is available on both instances to handle replication.

4.2 Enable Versioning Globally

Versioning is required for replication. Perform these steps on both the source and target instances:

Configure Bucket Replication Via Web Console:

  1. Log in to the MinIO web console.
  2. Go to Buckets and select any bucket.
  3. Enable versioning for the bucket. All future buckets created will inherit this setting.

4.3 Configure Full Site Replication

Via Web Console:

  1. Log in to the source MinIO instance console.
  2. Navigate to Side Menu > Site Replication.
  3. Click Add Replication and provide the following details:
  4. Endpoint: URL of the target MinIO instance (e.g., https://minio-sec.rit.services/).
  5. Access Key and Secret Key: Credentials for the target instance.
  6. Select All Buckets for replication scope.
  7. Save and activate the replication configuration.

4.4 Verify Replication

  1. Check Replication Status:
  2. Navigate to Settings > Site Replication in the console.

  3. Verify the target instance is listed as active.

  4. Test Replication:

  5. Create a new bucket on the source instance.
  6. Upload some files to the new bucket.
  7. Confirm that the bucket and its contents are replicated to the target instance.
